In Melbourne Shabbat begins Fri 21 Jun 2013 04:49 PM and ends Sat 22 Jun 2013 05:49 PM
Are you a graduate looking at a shule based career? Can you see a period in Israel partially funded by the COSV as furthering your potential for shule based communal involvement? As a condition of each grant scholarship recipients will be required on their return to carry out educational or communal work in line with the purposes of the award.
For further information in the first instance contact Yossi on 0419511772 or at shabbatshalom@gmail.com
Outreach
The COSV is conscious of its obligation to reach out to Jews who are not affiliated with any particular Congregation and is keen to undertake various educational programs to lift its level of support in this area.
Activities already initiated include educational programs, beginners Hebrew reading classes, Siddur Reading, Haftara Reading, Haggadah Reading, Synagogue Services to celebrate Yom Haatzmaut and Yom Yerushalayim and also Pesach and Shabbat Hospitality services.
Planned activities include Torah and Jewish Text study, Torah Oz Conferences and Seminars, Mezuzah and Tefillin checking, Sick Visiting Leadership Seminars and Shabbatonim programs.
More advanced learning and educational programs drawing on the resources available across the community are planned for the near future.
Torah Scholar in Residence Program
Another ambitious plan is to draw on the talent of overseas Rabbinic and Torah scholars and to bring them to Australia with the objective of making them available to Shules in Australia for the purpose of giving lectures, conducting seminars, conferences and in house programs.
